In his lecture-performance Apertures, UKYA alumnus Bill Balaskas will explore the ideological agency of contemporary art by expanding his research into the notion of “blindness”. Blurring the boundaries between personal narration, scientific documentation and poetic allegory, Balaskas will bring together a variety of sources and media, in order to further one of the most prominent preoccupations in his artistic and academic practice: the invisibility of the structures of power. Last spring in St. Ives Cornwall, UKYA ran our second ‘Weekender’ residency, curated by Claudio Zecchi in collaboration with Chiara Dellerba and Garth Gratrix. In this performative talk, the curators use the zine as a device to instigate and trigger an immersive and performative discussion, seeking to re-think and re-define the Cornish Weekender atmosphere with the participation of the artists and the public.

This interactive talk will be followed by an open session where you can find out more about the next UKYA Weekender, coming in 2019; applications open shortly after the City Takeover.
