The Sterling Trio And Arbarus
The Sterling Trio was formed in 2006 at the Royal Northern College of Music. Since this time, they have established themselves as an exciting, innovative and engaging chamber ensemble showcasing the rich diversity of music for flute, clarinet and piano throughout the UK. They pride themselves on a creative and versatile approach to music-making, striving for the highest standard of performance both as musicians and communicators.
MUSIC FOR THE IMAGINATION
Alongside exploring existing trio repertoire, the Trio has been championing new music, and in June 2009 commissioned a new work by the Manchester composer Lenny Sayers. The resulting composition, Music for the Imagination, explores the way in which music can paint vivid pictures in the imagination in a challenging yet accessible way. This visual concept inspired the Trio to explore collaborations within other art specialisms, to reach beyond music into visual art forms, and to bring live performance to as wide and diverse an audience as possible. To this end, they were pleased to begin working with Richard Dawson (Arbarus), a Manchester-based visual artist who specialises in moving image, installation and sculptural media. The collaboration led to the creation of a video installation which accompanies the live performance of Music for the Imagination.
