Sam Spreckley

Sam Spreckley is a British visual artist currently based between the north east of Scotland and Berlin. In 2007 he graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of art in Dundee Scotland with a first class honours degree in Time Based Art. In 2008 he completed a Masters degree in Electronic Imaging from the same institution. During those years he specialised in the creation of video for the expanded cinema and also in sound design.

Davis was commissioned for the first fine art exhibition at The Roundhouse in 2009 which then toured to Brussels to the Theatre Opt De Markt (the International Circus and Theatre Festival).

THOUGHT STUDIES

These works belong together and explore themes ranging from the natural and man made worlds, the human form, surface and an exploration of the relationships between sound and vision. The moving image works were recorded using various devices including DV cameras, 8mm film, animation and homemade cameras. Sound is a very important aspect of my work and as such as much time is spent on sound design as capturing and editing video. My work hopes to create a sense of immersion by using graphic imagery and using sound to create an almost heightened sense, much like a feeling of hypomania where details become the main focus. Seemingly banal moments from life are separated from reality and given a new sense via experimental sound design. The end result is a collection of moving image works that focus primarily on experimenting with sound and vision.
