Sam Laughlin
Born 1990 in Cambridge, U.K. Lives in Brighton. Laughlin's work has been exhibited in various group and solo exhibitions in the U.K, Europe and North America, as well as being published internationally in books and magazines. His current practice deals primarily with architecture, using it to engage with wider ideas that are often latently expressed in the structures we build.
FRAMEWORK
Frameworks is an ongoing series that focuses on Architecture in a transitional state. It examines unfinished structures around Europe, hinting at the living spaces they could become, whilst linking them with the ruins of classical civilisation. Skeletal in form and purpose, frames with nothing to support languish in their abandonment.
Here we see Architecture paused; construction has ceased and we are left with the bones of buildings in stasis.Incomplete for economic or political reasons, they become modern ruins. Constructions that were never buildings are contemporary artefacts, slowly crumbling.
