Priya Rupra
Priya Rupra’s practice is borne from a combination of her education, research and life experiences. Critical foundational, structural and psychological theory combined with a focus on diaspora, social hierarchy and cultural symbolisms navigate her contemporary fine art practice.
Her work is often shaped by real life and politics of difference, specifically generational trauma, conflict and power relations. Her performance style recontextualises traditional South Asian ritual, ceremony and teachings in an often raw and unsettling manner.
She aims to provoke the viewers exploration into difficult subject matters more deeply, sometimes relying on their participation for a work to hold value.
