Hollie Page
Through screen based and performative practice, Hollie Page explores notions of narcissism and obsession within digital culture. Page is fascinated by the awkward relationship between virtual and offline selves, as they compete for presence. Recent exhibitions and publications include: RUNG Magazine (the in-house publication by East Bristol Contemporary), System Gallery and Vandal’s Internet Yami Ichi at Tate St Ives. Originally from Nottingham, Page graduated from Fine Art at The University of the West of England in 2018.
Absorb me and i'll absorb you
Absorb me and I’ll absorb you is a screen based performance including three animations of the same digital being. This work is involved with what it feels like to virtually embody, both through physically carrying a screen and merging the identities of the actual and digital being. ‘Posthuman’ is used to describe how technology enables us to overcome the limits of the human form, such as multiple actual world people controlling one online avatar. Within this work, this multiple embodiment is flipped to give more power to the digital being.
As you wear this screen around the city, you carry the presence of a digital being which unsettlingly performs seductive actions. This enables the digital being to take over more space in an attempt to seduce more people into also becoming a carrier.
