London Fields Lido (Les Anses D’Arlet)

London Fields Lido (Les Anses D’Arlet) is the first in an ongoing series of acrylic and watercolour paintings on canvas exploring wild swimming in Britain with memories of swimming in Martinique and Zambia. Inspired by real events, London Fields Lido explores the relaxed human interactions noted in on a summer’s evening and the artist’s own desire to express deep tenderness to an unrequited love despite all the warning signs. The colours, document an evening on a beach in Anse D’Arlet and are also inspired by Paul Gauguin’s palette - an artist who also spent some time on the French Caribbean island.
