THE BACKWAY
Beyond The Backway illustrates photographs which subtly explore the world of Gambian asylum seekers in Sicily, Italy.
The project depicts stories both personal and unique to the individuals yet representing the seemingly universal narrative of strength and suffering experienced by those who make the journey from Gambia to Europe.
The photographs within Beyond The Backway collaborate with and focus on those who have survived the treacherous journey to Europe and are now left facing new obstacles, living precariously in a foreign land, whilst awaiting the uncertain outcome of the Italian asylum process.
