An exhibition presenting work by LeShaun Douglas, Piotr Krzymowski, Ryan Heath and Ben Morris, who through their artistic practices, present the different ways in which humans connect physically and emotionally through products of mass communication.
This exhibition features a nostalgia trip of photographic works inspired by 90’s teen television fashion, interactive prints that leave marks that uncover excessive smartphone usage, local history realised through virtual reality, and translated onto video, and a strange mix of fantasy and realism presented through 3D animation in a world where advances in technology have broken down the barriers separating dream, desire and reality.
Curated by Saziso Phiri.
About the Artists
LeShaun Douglas is a Fashion stylist/photographer/videographer and artist from Birmingham. She is a multifaceted artist who creates work prominently looking at black women and their walks of life. She hugely inspired by black media including film and music to create her art. LeShaun’s art often tells a story and is an outlet for her to spill her emotions and thoughts, Her projects are reflections of her in some shape or form it is important that she showcases black women and their stories as she feels it is important for their voices to be heard and for them to be represented in a world that often dismisses them and doesn’t see their beauty. She often uses bright bold and contrasting colours all the colours they tried to keep black people away from she is always looking at the contrast of the skin with the colour and how much it complements the imagery she creates,
LeShaun’s projects are to get black women to be the forefront of a lot if not all creative spaces as she feel it is important for them to be represented. Using black women in her work as they are extremely unrepresented in magazines, fashion media and film so she makes them her heroines.
