Call for Participants: New Artist Collective #2

UKNA New Artist Collective #1 , Lincoln November 2022

New Artist Collective: Taking Place (People, Place and Practice) Derby 2024

Application Deadline: Sunday 18th February 2024 at Midnight

'Taking Place’ (People, Place and Practice) launched in Lincoln in 2022 and offered the city a programme which focused on collaborative explorations by creatives, audiences, communities, young people and universities. Taking Place: Derby continues to explore and develop this model. The programme will consist of two parallel and intersecting programmes: New Artist Collective and Creative Citizens, which will cross over at various points, creating a space for learning and collaboration.

“I still look back on residency and am inspired by experiences and conversations from the period.’  Lincoln New Artist Collective member.

New Artist Collective #2: Why apply?

We are seeking 10 artists working in any discipline from across the UK to join our New Artist Collective #2 (NAC2). We consider this opportunity fluid, as it can run alongside your existing practice but also give you the opportunity to step out and reflect on your process, recharge creatively and develop a strong and enduring peer network. We are seeking artists who wish to contribute to creative discourse and recognise the value of the collective in terms of professional development, networking, and practice development.  This opportunity is focused on collaboration, where selected artists will work together through guided commissions to create new work, learn from each others’ practices, and explore what a temporary artist collective might achieve.  As a collective, you will be involved in shaping, building, and informing our work going forward, and help this programme be a meaningful and change-making experience for all those involved.

Derby City Centre

New Artist Collective: BASE

Derby City (and surrounding county of Derbyshire) will be the home of the New Artist Collective #2. Derby City hosts a variety of strong venues and attractions including theatre, museums and art galleries that reflect the city’s culture and heritage. Notably it has become a focus for emergent theatre makers in the East Midlands, gaining national recognition. Derby made a positive but unsuccessful bid to be City of Culture in 2022, but the ambitions and drive to deliver the offer are still present and we are keen to explore how NAC2 can be part of this conversation.

How to Apply

Click the button below to apply on Zealous. You will be asked to upload examples of your work/practice, which can be imagery, videos, sound, text, or a portfolio. Following that, there is a short application form to help the panel understand how you would benefit from the opportunity, and what you would bring to the New Artist Collective.

You will be able to save your application as a draft and return to it at any time, until the deadline on Sunday 18th February 2024 at Midnight.  The selection panel will be made up of representatives from UKNA, sector representatives, UKNA Alumni and Derby City.  Due to limited capacity, we are unable to give feedback to each individual artist. If you have not heard from UKNA by Friday 1st March 2024 , then unfortunately your application has not been successful on this occasion.

Along with the application form, please fill in an equal opportunities form. This is an anonymous form, which helps UKNA make sure our opportunities are reaching far and wide and attracting diverse submissions.

We are open to receiving applications in a variety of ways in order to make this process accessible to everyone. If you would like to discuss another way to apply, for example via video or audio, please get in touch by emailing info@uknewartists.co.uk
