Micky Dickson
As a graduate of Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University (2017), Micky is now a practicing artist specialising in concept driven installation, sculpture and textile based work. Led by experiences of ill-health, the work has now evolved to take form of an investigation into interiors, biological and domestic, re-appropriating patterns found in medical biology. Exhibiting in galleries across the east midlands, including Surface Gallery, Nottingham and Newarke Houses Museum, Leicester, Micky has also been involved in a number of research residencies centred on the collaboration of science and art; International programme: Infinitisimal, Quebec, Canada and Brief Encounters, Leicester.
Swathes of Platelets
Swathes of Platelets is an installation made up of a number of separate sculptural pieces. It combines harsh timber and metal elements with soft textiles embellished with screen and digital prints. The conceptual routes of the work are incredibly personal, dealing with my fathers ill-health. The work as a whole however, acts to be easily invested with others personal reference, appealing to the viewers own memories, experiences, associations.
It takes a look at the patterns shown in the microscopic image of a blood clot. Here I have taken these patterns and re-appropriated them, beginning an investigation into interiors; biological vs design. The aesthetics sit somewhere between the medical institution, an arts institution, a theatre set and a home. Suggestively real yet staged. Familiar but odd. Object to ornament to sculpture. Being as much an exploration of myself via my experiences as it is an exploration of space, interiority.
