Jim Adams

Jim Adams is a multidisciplinary artist based in Nottingham. His practice is based upon the examination of transitional spaces between English rural identities, specifically of two distinct entities; one of traditional values consisting of folklore, heritage, harvest and the romanticized ideals of rural landscape and one of modernisation, sprawl, digital globalisation and diversity.

Jim studied at Kingston University before establishing a studio practice in Nottingham. Since graduating, Jim has taken part in exhibitions across the UK spanning bronze casting, performance, printmaking and painting.

Guests At The Garden

Guests At The Garden' is a painting series informed by experiences in the rural green belt of Nottingham, specifically based on Jim's childhood in small villages and his time working as a tree surgeon.

The paintings contain elements of the landscape - of hidden conservatory windows, harvested fields and abandoned jettys - interrupted and intruded by peculiar spillages, amorphous airbourne forms and the vague presence of organic matter. The result is a representation of the ambiguous, unknown and private contexts that exist behind the initial impression of bucolic, vibrant colours and scenery.
