I’m a 19-year-old self-taught digital artist from Birmingham. I’ve been digitally painting since late 2015. In 2016, I disregarded Sixth Form to stay at home to practise my digital painting and learn about life as an artist. The risk of doing this made me realise how being a creative fulfilled me, and the idea of being an artist inspired me to work hard. Since 2015, I have developed my skills and style in a way that utilizes the properties of digital painting, and I want to carry this forward and be a pioneer of digital art.

Boys Can't Wear Pink

‘Boys Can’t Wear Pink’ is a series of digitally painted self-portraits that prompt the viewer to consider toxic masculinity and sexism in a modern world. The use of colour and the co-operation of the three self-portraits opens the viewer up to consider the context of the work, and what the use of colour symbolises. Whilst each piece works individually, the collection of portraits combine in various ways to engage the viewer, and pushes them to question their own views as much as the motives of the project.
The project is focused around realism to also get the viewer to understand the capabilities of digital painting, whilst also to make relating to the subject easier. I want audiences to change their opinions of digital painting, as my project looks to push the medium past the pre-conception that digital art is only for commercial use.
