Jodie Hatcher
Jodie Hatcher is a designer/maker specialising in Woven metalwork. She graduated from De Montfort University with a First class BA (Hons) in Design Crafts in 2011. In October 2013 Jodie joined the Starter studio program at Yorkshire Artspace in Sheffield which has enabled her to develop a new collection of Woven Sculptural vessels.
The weaving process is central to Jodie’s work she explores how far she can push the material to create her desired form. Jodie is inspired by architecture and forms found in nature, but inevitable it is the weaving process which drives the final form.
A SERIES OF WOVEN SCULPTURAL VESSELS
Jodie created this series of woven sculptural vessels, through experimenting with the different aspects of the process such as the weave, form, scale and material.
Each piece is created using thin strips of sheet metal which Jodie weaves together in a geometric patterns, to create her own sheet material which she then shapes around a range of metal stakes and wooden formers, to create her desired form.
Jodie intends the viewer to feel intrigue towards how the pieces are made and the contrast between the control of the weave and the organic nature of the forms.
