Segment’s exhibition Direction Lines will encompass a series of projections with interview style moving image. The aim of these short films will be to create a line of questioning and enquiry within the viewer, to interrogate where each individual places themselves against the issues raised. They hope to breakdown the societal structures that we all have grown to be accustomed to and in turn inspire reflection.
Segment are a group of four third year fine art students at Nottingham Trent University. Their practices entail; moving image, sound, installation and performance. Their contexts pull from a keen interest in social politics, the infra-structure that builds up the institutions that they have experienced and the history of society’s conformance to general consensus. This combined work is set aside from their individual practices however, together they find common ground by shedding light on the everyday and reflecting upon experiences which are more poignant or sobering. As a collective they ask the audience to question themselves and their surroundings. They aim to form a new sense of awareness in their audience through an interactive experience with sensory elements.
