UKYA X National Justice Museum Award

UK Young Artists and The National Justice Museum are delighted to announce the two artists selected for the UKYA X National Justice Museum commission awards. Presented as a legacy of UKYA’s City Takeover in Nottingham 2019, the National Justice Museum shortlisted exceptional artists, who they felt could connect their practice to their enduring themes of crime, law, punishment and justice in an overt or esoteric way; bringing the historic themes up to date and relevant to people’s lives today.

The two commissioned artists are Hannah Parikh and Kelly Fung. They will collaborate with the museum on individual projects, which develop and display their work in a variety of ways.

Hannah Parikh is a visual artist specialising in sculpture and installation. She encompasses a range of techniques in her practice such as casting, ceramics and mould making. Parikh combines found materials with casts of domestic objects to transform spaces, influenced by scenes of everyday life and human presence. Hannah Parikh will work collaboratively with the museum under the theme of ‘young people and protest, and power’, developing a series of workshops and interventions throughout the museum.

Kelly is an interdisciplinary maker. She works with materials, objects, images and installation to reconstruct fragmented memory. Kelly aims to create an ongoing space, she calls it home: an extension of self and imagination, which allows audiences to speak to and from their collective memory. Recent exhibitions include: Schmuck (group show), The Show (RCA degree show). Originally from China, Kelly graduated from Fine Art at the School of Art Institute of Chicago, 2015, recently received MA from Royal College of Art. Kelly Fung will work with the museum to produce a sequence of interventional works.
