UK Young Artists in South Korea!

UK Young Artists is delighted to announce that our Director, Michelle Bowen was successful in an application to the Arts Council England Artist International Development Fund. Led by Michelle, we will be travelling to South Korea to open up new dialogues and explore potential projects and collaborations. South Korea offers new and relevant platforms for young artists to present work and will be an amazing place to develop partnerships for UK Young Artists.

Whilst in Korea 14 – 28 November 2016 on an initial R&D trip, Michelle will aim to find appropriate partners, artists and festivals so that we can deliver a showcase of UKYA work in Korea in 2017, and host a showcase of Korean work at our National Festival: Nottingham 2018. UKYA will be meeting artist group, ABE, who run Suwon Bienalle, Chung-Ang as well as embedding relationships with the Arts Council Korea, British Council and leading universities such as Hongik. Following the visit, UKYA hopes to introduce a new suite of international digital collaborations and connections where young artists can share and see work.

Two of UKYA's Artist Ambassadors will be on the outward mission to ensure that the voice of the artist is at the heart of what we do. Liz West and Matthew John Atkinson will supporting Michelle at meetings as well as sharing their work with talks at artist led spaces and venues across Seoul and Busan.

This outward mission to Korea underpins a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between The Arts Council Korea and Arts Council England with the collaboration of the British Council. Acknowledging the common desire to broaden mutual understanding and friendship between South Korea and England. With a view to strengthening an exchange of each country’s culture, arts, creative industries. Each country will seek to promote and facilitate all activities which will make this possible. UK Young Artists is delighted to be able to contribute to this.
