At UK Young Artists, we're proud to say that we've worked with some truly fantastic artists over the years, and it's incredible to see some of our rising stars reaching great successes, both in the UK and all over the world. This week, the spotlight is on Liz West, one of UKYA's Ambassadors. Liz has shared news of four amazing commissions for 2016, from Britain's 2016 Olympic House in Brazil, to the Natural History Museum in London, the National Trust's Little Moreton Hall and the Bristol Biennial! BRITISH HOUSE RIO

Liz West has been commissioned to make a series of new works for Britain's 2016 Olympic House in Brazil. The British House will host events celebrating the United Kingdom and its athletes during the games in August. The commission consists of a group of colour clad cuboid structures that create the effect of inverted stained-glass windows and sundials within the courtyard of Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro. #BritishHouseRio

OUR SPECTRAL VISION AT THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

Our Spectral Vision is a new work by Liz West as part of special exhibition Colour and Vision: Through the Eyes of Nature at the Natural History Museum in London.

Our Spectral Vision creates a vivid environment that mixes luminous colour and radiant light. It invites visitors to explore their relationship with colour and our understanding of how we see it. By replicating the diversion of white light through large-scale prisms, West allows pure saturated colour to drench the room. Our Spectral Vision is inspired by Isaac Newton’s seven-fold colour spectrum. Open from 15 July until 6 November 2016. More images of the new work can been viewed HERE.

THE NATIONAL TRUST'S LITTLE MORETON HALL

Opening in September at the National Trust's Little Moreton Hall in Cheshire, Liz West has been commissioned as part of the Trust New Art programme. Liz West’s exhibition draws inspiration from over thirty thousand lead panes that make up the Tudor house’s windows, which are subtly tinted by trace impurities of copper, iron and magnesium. These glass colourways are the starting point for an artwork that uses filters, refraction and reflection to create several spatial installations spaced throughout the house. The interplay of architecture, light and colour will change as the sun’s natural light shifts over the autumn season. Autumn Lights; 9 September – 27 November 2016. More info HERE.

BRISTOL BIENNIAL

Liz West has been invited to exhibit Your Colour Perception at this year's Bristol Biennial. West will transform a functional space into an immersive and embodied experience by wrapping each existing light fixture with chromatic filters. A vivid world is created, exploring human visual perception and how colour affects us emotionally and physically. Your Colour Perception; 3 - 10 September, 10am-7pm. The Pithay, Bristol. BS1 2LZ.
