UK New Artists celebrated The Beginning of Taking Place: Lincoln with an exhibition and a collection of live performances by the New Artist Collective

UKNA successfully launched a brand-new, innovative model ‘Taking Place’; a year-long programme of interventions, collaborative explorations and public activities in Lincoln.
The programme opened in Lincoln on Friday 18 November 2022 with a showcase of work by some of the best up and coming artists from the New Artist Collective; a cross-disciplinary group of 17 artists. The exhibition and live performances celebrated the wealth of talent, skill and diversity within the group and offered the public to enjoy work for free.
A live sharing of works took place at Lincoln Performing Arts Centre, taking the form of a scratch sharing with excerpts of works alongside selected pieces which included live music, spoken word, dance, drag performance and a short film screening. The programme included:
A 15-minute live music set by Aayushi, ‘An Introductory Set’.
Yasmine Dankwah presented ‘Mixtape Mind’, a collection of her work to date.
Tyler Barker presented their video piece ‘Hair with Blades’.
Zara Sands presented a work in development ‘Remote and Growing’.
Jack Boal closed the evening with a lip-sync, clowning, and verbatim theatre ‘Thatcher-Rite’.
On Saturday 19 November, No Jobs In The Arts hosted a free Zine Making Session in partnership with The MashUP and Lincoln Museum & Usher Gallery.
‘Starting Points: Ideas for a More Creative Lincoln’ invited the public to participate in sharing their thoughts for a more creative Lincoln through zine making. This free group making session archived collective dreams, manifestos, thoughts, wants, needs, and ideas for Lincoln, and is the starting point for generating content for a tiny library of ideas to encourage future creativity in Lincoln.
Following the Starting Points workshop, the Zine Library is now open and can be found on a shelf in Lincoln Central Library until March 2024. You can:

Alongside Taking Place: Lincoln, UKNA’s Creative Citizens will work with young people aged 14-19 across Lincolnshire, offering a range of ways to support more young people to explore their creativity, in collaboration with an array of local partners and education establishments. The programme will include workshops, venue visits, mentoring and creative sessions.
